The Southbound Carriageway of the Central Motorway will be closed from 06:00hrs - 16:00hrs.

Lane Closures and temporary traffic signals will be introduced as and when required.

A temporary road closure will be required at the junction of Beech Grove Road and Westmorland Road to introduce a raised footway crossing - during this time a signed diversion route for vehicles will be in place.

The temporary road closure is required in the interest of public safety to manage the coaches and pedestrians during the football match between Newcastle United and Sunderland

This traffic management includes a number of carriageway and lane closures which are necessary for the safe completion of bridge abutement strengthening and bridge deck jointing works.

Please note that some of these dates are provisional and are subject to change dependant upon the progress of the works.

Resurfacing works

This closure will only apply to vehicles with pedestrian access being available at all times.

Belmont Street- from the junction of Walker Road in a southerly direction for a distance of 105m (to include its junction with Clipstone Avenue)

Reason - To carry out reconstruction work to the highway.

Diversion - via Walker Road 

Duration - 2 months (work will be carried out over a period of 2

weeks during this timescale Monday- Friday (see hours above).

Residents will be informed by letter 1 week prior to start of works.

Reason - To carry out works to resurface the road and fringe improvement, also to ensure the health and safety of the general public  

Duration - The closure will commence on the 5 December and is required for 6 months.

The works will be carried out during this timescale and will be carried out over a 2 week period.

Residents will be informed by letter one week prior to the start of work.

Diversion - via Heaton Road , Cardigan Terrace and Second Avenue

Access for emergency services will be maintained where possible 

Jesmond Dene Road – from its junction with The Grove to 20 metres north of its junction with Lindisfarne Road.

Back Queen’s Road South, between Grosvenor Place and Gowan  Terrace.
         
It is anticipated that the work on Jesmond Dene Road will only take three days to complete and full reconstruction of the carriageway on Back Queen’s Road South will take up to 8 weeks to complete.  The remainder of the closure is included as a contingency in the event of unforeseen difficulties or inclement weather.

All appropriate diversion signs and advance warning signs will be placed on the adjacent highway network.

The Legal Order for the closures is for 6 months and will start on Monday night 26 September 2011.  It is anticipated that the initial work on Percy Street will be completed over 4 consecutive nights.  The remainder of the closure is included as a contingency in the event of inclement weather or if for other reasons the work is not completed.  This will also cover future closures to enable the resurfacing work in the bus stations.

Advance warning signs will be placed on the adjacent street network as and when required.

Off peak working (09:30am - 15:30pm) on St James Boulevard and Scotswood Road when required

Night time working (19:00pm - 07:00am) for resurfacing

Weekend working during day and night time when required - for surfacing and laying ducts.
